My Dream Emmy Ballot 2016: “Lead Actress in a Comedy Series”

Here is what the “Lead Actress in a Comedy Series” category would look like if I was in charge of the Emmys (unfortunately, you can only nominate six people, and with this category, where somehow Gina Rodriguez and Julia Louis-Dreyfuss didn’t make the cut, that was tough).

Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series

Mindy Kaling (Mindy Lahiri, The Mindy Project)

– Rachel Bloom (Rebecca Bunch, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend)

– Sharon Horgan (Sharon, Catastrophe)

– Aya Cash (Gretchen Cutler, You’re the Worst)

– Emmy Rossum (Fiona Gallagher, Shameless)

– Ellie Kemper (Kimmy Schmidt, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt)

Runner-Up: Sutton Foster (Liza Miller, Younger)

Mindy Kaling has to get this. First, The Mindy Project getting picked up for an extended season on Hulu this year (after getting cancelled by FOX) was glorious. For the show then to take the creative curve balls it did, with breaking up Mindy and Danny—courageous. That’s the kind of rocking the boat that makes people very unhappy, yet the decision stuck, they let it play out, and the range of emotions Mindy Kaling got to play as consequence was phenomenal! If she somehow doesn’t get nominated, ex-squeeze-me if I’m a little upset.

And let the debates begin! Do you agree with my choices? Disagree? Voice your thoughts in the comments below and organize your own nominee list using the  official Emmy ballot.

Also be sure to check back July 14th when the official nominees get announced.

(P.S. No worries if your choices are long shots (certainly many of mine are).  but it’s nice to pretend they have a chance anyway.)
